In the U.S. alone, a video game is purchased every two seconds on eBay, and a smartphone is purchased every six seconds. When contemplating names for the site, founder Pierre Omidyar initially planned to use the name of his computer consulting company, Echo Bay, but since it was taken, he shortened the name to eBay.

Printing Quiz

If your printer mentions the gutter, what they really mean is:

  • The trough that carries rainwater off your roof

  • The trenches on either side of a bowling lane

  • A margin or guide to keep text within the printable area of a document

When designing a document, the gutter is a visual reference to prevent text from getting too close to the edge.
